Our Story

While volunteering in Southeast Asia at age 25, Ali noticed a place on her face that would never fully heal. As soon as she returned to the States, she went to the dermatologist who carried out a tissue biopsy. The result? Basal Cell Carcinoma.

After a successful Mohs surgery and 20 stitches later, Ali was on the road to recovery. She started to consult with her dermatologist, asking questions like, “Where did I go wrong?” and “What could I have done differently?” Realizing that the best way to protect your skin was to take preventative measures against sun exposure, the idea for Sunny Shade Up was formed. 

Faced with the harsh realities of getting skin cancer at an early age, Ali was inspired to start her company, Sunny Shade Up, promoting sun protection and making a difference for both people and the environment.

Our Founder

Ali is a red head and has a passion for the great outdoors. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and volunteering internationally. Her goal with Sunny Shade Up is to promote a healthier life outdoors, and by doing so, help our oceans and reefs. Check out her blog to follow more of her journey!
