FAQs
Q. What is a gaiter and how does it offer sun protection?
A. A gaiter is a face covering mask that can be worn in various ways. It provides sun protection for your neck and face. We make all of our gaiters from performance fabric, which offers optimal sun protection by blocking out UV rays.
As of April 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending wearing cloth face coverings to help slow the spread of COVID-19 when combined with every day preventative actions and social distancing. Q. Why do we only Sell mineral based sunscreens?
A. We advocate for mineral based sunscreens as studies have shown these gentle ingredients are safe for people and the planet. Generic sunscreens use toxic chemicals like oxybenzone or octinoxate, which are absorbed into the bloodstream and have been linked to endocrine disruption. Additionally, these chemicals are dangerous to children and hazardous to coral reefs.
Q. What is broad spectrum sunscreen and why is it important to add this to your daily suncare routine?
A. Broad Spectrum sunscreen protects your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Many conventional sunscreens offer a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) value, which is effective in protecting your skin from UVB rays. If you choose to use an SPF sunscreen, you are making your skin vulnerable to UVA rays.
We only sell Broad spectrum sunscreens to offer optimal sun protection for your skin.
Q. What is ultraviolet light and why do you need to protect your skin from UV light?
A. Ultraviolet (UV) light comes from the sun and man-made sources like tanning beds and welding torches. UV light is a form of radiation and these invisible rays can vary in their energy. There are three types of UV rays: UVA, UVB and UVC.
UVA: These rays have a longer wavelength and penetrate your skin more deeply. They are responsible for tanning and sunburns. UVA radiation causes genetic damage to cells on the innermost part of your top layer of skin, which is where most skin cancers occur. Additionally, UVA radiation leads to premature aging, wrinkles and skin cancer
UVB: These rays have a shorter wavelength and can damage the outermost layers of your skin. They are responsible for sunburns and blistering. UVB radiation can lead to skin cancer and premature aging.
UVC: The shortest wavelength and has the most energy, which is why these are very dangerous. These are filtered out by the earth’s atmosphere, so they do not reach earth. However, welding torches and mercury lamps can emit UVC rays.
Q. Do you sew all Gaiters/face covering masks by hand?
A. Yes! We are very proud to say we make all of our masks by hand. We hand select all fabrics used to make the masks. Each mask is made with love and positive energy!
Q. What gives tinted sunscreen their color? Do they contain dyes?
A. The tint in the products we sell comes from Iron Oxide, which is a natural mineral ingredient. The sunscreens we sell do not contain dyes or fragrances.
